How an engagement is recorded
A later signed agreement is the engagement. This page describes what that agreement is expected to cover. This page is not the agreement.
Stages
The record uses these stages. Receiving an inquiry is not the same as accepting an engagement. The five-year fee window for a qualifying recovery investigation starts when the engagement is accepted, not when the inquiry arrives.
- Inquiry received. The message has arrived. No engagement and no fee window start at this stage.
- Inquiry assessed. A representative has reviewed the message. A reply by itself does not accept the matter.
- Engagement accepted. A representative has replied, the client has replied by email, WhatsApp, or a phone call, and both sides have accepted the investigation.
- Investigation commenced. The company has started the work described in the signed agreement.
- Report delivered. The written findings have been given to the client. Delivery of a report does not by itself end the fee window.
- Case closed. Both sides have closed the matter, or the company has stated in writing that it cannot recover the funds in that case. The fee window ends.
- Recovery condition fulfilled, if it applies. The client has recovered funds from an entity the work covered, inside the fee window, on the terms of the signed agreement.
The signed agreement is expected to name the scope, the fee, the recovery condition if a qualifying arrangement applies, and the fee window.
A limited trace, a feasibility review, and institutional work are priced in that written scope. They are not automatically the indicative 12% arrangement.
An engagement starts only when a representative has replied, the client has replied by email, WhatsApp, or a phone call, and both sides have accepted an investigation for fund tracing or other cryptocurrency recovery work. The form, and the company's first reply alone, do not start it.
For a qualifying recovery investigation, no upfront forensic-report fee is charged. The indicative success fee is around 12% of the qualifying recovered amount, and the signed agreement states the percentage for that client. The fee window runs for five years from the engagement date. A fee becomes payable if, inside that window, the client recovers funds from an entity the work covered, including through the report, a law-enforcement step that used the work, or the services. A recovery from a different scam does not count. A freeze or a hold is not itself a recovery unless the agreement says so.
If both sides close the matter, or the company states in writing that it cannot recover the funds in that case, the fee window ends. After a counted recovery, the record is kept for ten years from the latest counted recovery from the same covered entities. The Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy state the same periods.
